Trained as an art historian in Bonn and Oxford, Florian Illies (b. 1971) graduated with a thesis on the evolution of taste in the 19th century. He was the editor of FAZ's „Berliner Seiten" and DIE ZEIT's arts section, before joining Villa Grisebach as managing partner in 2011.
